London based artist Alexander Savine has been experimenting with sound art and lo-fi sonic scapes for the last several years, after a background in Digital Music and Sound Art at the University of Brighton, as well as multi-instrumental orientated projects in and around London and Brighton’s music scenes respectively. Now his approach revolves around a key philosophy of ‘art beyond instrumentation’. This means an approach to sound that thrives on the exploration and experimentation of the further sonic world; live sound sampling, use of feedback and distortion, synthesisers and more all play a part in the pieces he creates.

 

A background in playing guitar, bass and drums, has meant that he has worked on more traditional sound design roles, such as advertisements like the Bird and Blend Christmas advert for 2022. Yet, his belief in the use of these experimental sounds was informed by the limitations that frustrate many artists in their chosen fields. Therefore the wide palette of sound used in his works creates minimalist yet dynamic pieces of art, that intend to resemble no particular artist or genre, instead a want for the listener to find their own meaning within any piece, not relying on pre-decided emotions. The gap between art and artist should not be a gate-kept and shrouded secret for the few who have learned a musical discipline, that defeats the purpose of the art.

 

Working within the parameters of atypical sound has led Savine to have worked with artists such as Jack Richards on his portrait series , and showed his skillset for the more experimental art works, with burgeoning emphasis on expressionism in a more minimal form, to elicit the pure emotional reactions of those listening.
